Officer Justus and his partner responded to a call of a burglary in progress. The officers located the suspect and gave chase on foot to apprehend him. In the course of attempting to take the suspect into custody, Officer Justus was physically assaulted by the suspect. The suspect then advanced towards Officer Justus’s partner and shots were fired. During the exchange of fire, Justus was struck on his left foot, his left hand, and his chest. Fortunately, Officer Justus was wearing his Second Chance® body armor with the trauma plate insert. The round the struck him in the chest impacted his vest at the trauma pate.
