Officer Bristow was one of the first to respond to a shots fired complaint at 2:30am. The complainant took Bristow into his backyard to point out the residence the shots were heard from. As they were moving to the back yard, the suspect stepped out of his residence and was hiding in the shadows. The suspect then began firing on them with a 12-gauge shotgun. The first round hit Bristow in the head. The second round hit the complainant in the legs. Bristow pushed the complainant to the ground and protected him by lying on top of him. The third shotgun blast fired hit Bristow on his Second Chance® body armor. At this point Officer Bristow was able to stand up and return fire, driving the suspect back inside the residence. Officer Bristow and the complainant were able to move to the front of the residence to seek medical treatment and transport to the hospital. The suspect eventually exited the front of the residence and became involved in an exchange of fire with other officers. The suspect was fatally wounded.
