A Drunk driver going 65 mph hit officer Mahon’s cruiser as he was parked on the shoulder of the highway. Officer Mahon was unrestrained and was thrust into the steering wheel. He was able to crawl out of his vehicle and apprehend the suspect as he attempted to flee the scene. According to the attending physician, “Mahon’s vest prevented him from sustaining severe chest injuries.”
