Officer Longolucco was on route to answer an alarm call. A truck rounded a sharp curve and crossed over the centerline and struck the cruiser head -on. Shortly thereafter, another car also crossed over the centerline and struck the cruiser, too. Officer Longolucco was knocked unconscious from the impact. In addition, his legs were pinned to the dashboard and the driver’s side door was pushed so far to the right that it was on the passenger side of the vehicle.Officer Longolucco had to be extricated by the Jaws of Life and because of the condition of the vehicle; the extrication took place through the roof of the cruiser.According to Longolucco’s physician, his Second Chance® armor absorbed significant impact from the head-on collision, which prevented a more serious injury or death.
