Deputy Scott Griffith was pursuing a suspected car thief on a rural road when the suspect lost control of his stolen truck and slid into a snow bank. Griffith pulled behind the suspect’s truck and was exiting his patrol car when the suspect exited his truck armed with a shotgun and shot at Griffith hitting him on the vest, arm, hand and head. Griffith took cover by going behind his vehicle and around to the rear passenger’s side. He was then able to return fire wounding the suspect in the leg. The suspect then fled in the deputy’s vehicle and was eventually forced off the road when he was surrounded by local law enforcement. All tolled, the 70-mile chase covered four northern Michigan counties and ended up involving over 11 different police agencies.Griffith did not sustain and serious injuries thanks to his Second Chance® armor.
