Deputy John Channell

Randolph County Sheriff’s Department Elkins WV Saves Club

Deputy Channell and another deputy were attempting to serve a warrant for domestic battery at a residence. As they were approaching the door, gunfire erupted from inside the residence. Both officers were hit with ammunition from a SKS 7.62 rifle. Channell was hit on his Second Chance® armor in the right lower back. The other officer was hit on his arm. They both managed to find cover, but Channell was pinned behind his vehicle for 45 minutes before he could escape. The standoff lasted a total of 13 hours and 4 officers were wounded. The warrant was eventually served and the suspect taken into custody.
