Officer Verleen Hanes was the second female officer to benefit from her Second Chance® vest. While responding to an emergency call, Hanes was involved in a struggle with a subject. Hanes received injuries to her hand and a tear to her vest, where she was stabbed in the chest by the assailant. Her vest stopped the knife from penetrating Hanes skin and saving her from a major, potentially fatal injury.
