Officer Aguiar was answering a call that reported a taxicab driver had been shot. He saw a male that matched the description of the shooter. When he approached the suspect, the suspect opened fire on Aguiar with a .45 caliber handgun. Aguiar was hit on his vest directly above his heart and on his shoulder. That bullet was held by his Second Chance® ULTIMA II armor. Aguiar was knocked down by the shooting, but was able to get up and track the suspect for about 3 blocks until some other officers arrived and were able to take over. The shooter engaged in yet another shootout with other officers and was fatally wounded as a result. Officer Aguiar was treated and released for his injuries and was able to go home to his expectant wife and 13 month old son.
We welcome Officer John Aguiar, SAVE #900, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
