Gebhardt was traveling approximately 120 mph and in pursuit of a fleeing suspect when his left rear tire failed and the tread separated. He lost control of his vehicle and struck another vehicle in the opposing lane. After that he struck an embankment and his vehicle finally came to a stop. Deputy Gebhardt suffered no internal injuries, bruising or broken ribs because he was wearing his Second Chance® armor.
