Officer Michael Arpaia was involved in a major traffic collision while on duty night duty with the California Highway Patrol. Arpaia sustained major trauma to his face and head and blunt trauma to the chest area. He was wearing a Second Chance® Tri-Flex vest at the time and it was determined had Arpaia not been wearing his vest, the trauma to his chest would have been severe, and possibly fatal.
