Thacker was attempting to subdue a suspect that was fleeing the scene of a fight. He was knocked face down to the ground unconscious. The suspect then jumped on his back with both knees and continued to beat him on his back and neck. Luckily back-up arrived and the suspect was subdued. The attending physician stated that had it not been for his armor, Thacker’s back would have been broken.
