During a pursuit of a fleeing vehicle, Bell was attempting to stop the vehicle with stop sticks. The suspect then turned on him with the vehicle and attempted to run him over. Officer Bell was struck at approximately 45-50 mph. He hit the grill of the vehicle and then the hood and windshield and was then thrown over the vehicle.His doctors believe that his Second Chance® armor took the shock and protected his internal organs of serious and possibly life threatening injuries.
