A lightweight bulletproof vest saved the life of Officer Thornhill early on August 1, 1977, when a man outside a local tavern fired at him and his partner. The officers returned fire and the gunman was killed. Thornhill was hit in the chest by a .38 caliber bullet, but was released from Hampton General Hospital with nothing more serious than a bruise above his heart. Wrote the local newspaper, “Thornhill’s narrow escape makes him a member of the “Second Chance® Club” sponsored by the manufacturer of the acrylic vest.”
We welcome Officer Mark Thornhill, SAVE #94, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
