On February 21, 2013 District 6 of the Denver Police Department requested the assistance of Metro/SWAT for a barricaded suspect who was shooting at officers from a residence on Grant Street. Over the next several hours negotiations were conducted with the shooter who, at random intervals, fired at officers through the walls, out the windows and out the entry door from a shotgun. At 0407 hours, the suspect fired three shots from his shotgun at the arrest team through the apartment entry door. Shotgun pellets struck the PROTECH® NATO 3TM Shield in multiple places and protected SWAT Technicians, Jake Stevenson and Joshua Bollwahn. At 0555 Hours the suspect surrendered to the SWAT Team. Lieutenant Paul Berdahl stated in his letter to The Safariland Group, “ The Safariland Shield did what we expected it to do; protect our officers.”
We welcome Technician Jake Stevenson, SAVE #1842, and Technician Joshua Bollwahn, SAVE#1843, to The SafarilandGroup SAVES CLUB®.
