On October 18, 2023, Sergeant Patrick Kepp was assisting other officers who were attempting to stop a known reckless and dangerous driver on Northbound I-270 in Gaithersburg, MD. Sgt. Kepp was attempting to deploy Stop Sticks when the driver intentionally struck him. The vehicular assault caused severe injuries to Sgt. Kepp, including the traumatic amputation of his right leg above the knee while still on scene. Other officers quickly responded and were able to apply tourniquets to stop the bleeding from his femoral artery bleeds thereby saving his life. Sgt. Kepp was flown by the Maryland State Police to the University of Maryland-Shock Trauma Center where they had to amputate his left leg below the knee. His Safariland® Summit™ SM02 Level IIIA armor worn in a DN6774 EOC Carrier protected his torso throughout the traumatic event. Sgt. Kepp went through months of surgeries and physical rehabilitation and has returned to duty.
We welcome Sergeant Patrick Kepp as Save #2209 to The Safariland Group Saves Club®.
