Trooper Jerry Hunter

Missouri Highway Patrol - Missouri Saves Club

On June 17, 2025, Missouri Highway Patrol Trooper Jerry Hunter was on patrol when the Concordia Missouri Police began a vehicle pursuit of motorcycle for a man wanted for killing his mother and stepfather, both Arizona Rangers, the day before.

Several agencies joined the pursuit, but they lost sight of the motorcycle when it exited I-70. A citizen reported seeing the motorcycle, and Trooper Hunter moved to that area.

Knowing the severity of the crime for which the motorcyclist was wanted, Trooper Hunter moved his vehicle to block the road. The motorcyclist crashed into the Trooper’s patrol vehicle, and the suspect was thrown from the bike.

Trooper Hunter exited his vehicle and approached the suspect in an attempt to take him into custody. The suspect immediately moved back to the motorcycle and produced a 9mm handgun. The suspect fired and hit Trooper Hunter in his upper left chest.

Trooper Hunter, after being shot, was able to stay in the fight, return fire, and end the threat.

Trooper Hunter’s Safariland® SX02 Level II armor, worn in an M2 carrier, stopped the round to Trooper Hunter’s chest. He was treated and released from the hospital and has returned to full duty.

We welcome Trooper Jerry Hunter as Save #2269 to The Safariland Group Saves Club®.
