The New Canik Mete MC9L and MC9LS Pistols

— James MaybrickCADRE Dispatch

Among compact 9mm handguns in a mid-tier price range, the Canik Mete lineup has struck a nerve since it was introduced here in the States in 2021. This foreign-born micro compact boasts all the features one would expect from its class: a slim slide and double-digit capacity without going to a beefier double-stack grip frame.

New for 2024 is the Canik Mete MC9L and MC9LS, bringing the original micro compact MC9 into Glock crossover territory.

Features

The new Canik MC9L and MC9LS models come with all the adaptable features many modern shooters seek in a carry handgun.

This polymer-framed striker-fired 9mm pistol has interchangeable backstraps that allow the user to beef up the grip. The frame also features tactile grip panels and a short Picatinny rail for mounting a weapon light. Fully ambidextrous controls include a button-style magazine release and enlarged slide release on both sides of the handgun.

Like other new-generation Caniks, these new models feature black nitrided stainless steel and are milled with forward and rearward cocking serrations, a set of iron sights including a conventional white dot front and square-notch rear.

Like other modern micro compacts, the MC9L and MC9LS come red-dot ready for RMSc footprint optics. Both models are available with an optional MeCanik M01 3 MOA red dot optic.

Barrel and Grip

The chief difference between the MC9LS and the MC9L is that the former features a longer 3.6-inch barrel, compared to the latter’s 3.2-inch barrel. The LS model also has a longer grip over the original Mete 9 to accommodate 17-round magazines. The MC9L has that longer grip but retains the same overall lines and dimensions as the original Mete 9.

The new Canik Mete MC9L and MC9LS ships in a hard case containing a set of backstraps, a cleaning and tool kit, a custom IWB holster, and two 17-round magazines. MSRP starts at $499.
