The Staccato HD: Yes, It Takes Glock Mags

CADRE Dispatch

Glock pistols are some of the most common handguns on the market and the number of Glock magazines on the market has given us the saying, “But does it take Glock mags?” Staccato, the premier manufacturer of double-stack 1911s has taken accepted the challenge with their new Staccato HD.

Features

The new Glock-magazine-compatible HD line starts with the HD P4 and HD P4.5 handguns. Both handguns feature a steel subframe and a stippled polymer grip frame. The grip frame’s backstrap skips the usual grip safety seen on other double stack 1911s, instead going straight for an enhanced beavertail and skeletonized hammer.

The frame is fully lefty-friendly with an ambidextrous magazine release, slide release, and extended thumb safety. But central to the frame is its adjustable aluminum trigger that is adjustable to between 4-4.5 lbs. The subframe uses a conventional full-length light rail and wears a DLC coating that comes standard on Staccato’s steel-framed handguns.

The slide features forward and rearward cocking serrations, a high profile Trijicon front post sight, and a forward-mounted rear square notch designed to sit in front, rather than behind, a reflex optical sight. The sight setup itself is Staccato’s HOST footprint, which works with popular sights like the Trijicon RMR. The difference is that the HOST dispenses with adapter plates and allows an optic to be mounted lower directly onto the slide to co-witness with smaller iron sights and prevent spent brass from dinging the glass.

The HD P4 and HD P4.5 differ primarily in barrel length and design features. The HD P4 is equipped with a shorter 4-inch stainless steel bull barrel, while the HD P4.5 features a longer 4.5-inch barrel with a separate sight block. This sight block keeps the front sight stationary during recoil, improving target acquisition. The shorter 4-inch slide of the HD P4 reduces cycling time and recoil, allowing for faster split times and more rounds on target.

The new Staccato HD lineup is also available with a number of optional upgrades from lightning cuts to aluminum mag wells and more. The P4 is now shipping, while the P4.5 is expected to be available in April 2025. MSRP of this new line starts at $2,499.
