Rick Hogg

“Strive to be 1% better every day.”

Bio

Rick Hogg is the founder of War HOGG Tactical, Inc. and a 29-year U.S. Army Special Operations combat veteran with 13 combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. A former Special Operations K9 handler and instructor for the Special Forces Advanced Urban Combat Course (SFAUC), Rick has spent his career training others to survive and win in high-risk environments.

War HOGG Tactical is based in North Carolina, providing firearms, tactics, and K9 training to civilians, military units, and law enforcement nationwide. Rick instructs his students utilizing combat proven techniques and experience to improve students’ marksmanship proficiency. His company also offers product development, field testing, and consulting services for the defense, firearms, and entertainment industries.

War HOGG was born in 2002, when Rick’s returning SFAUC students told him,
“That stuff you taught me saved my life.”

That moment cemented Rick’s mission: to provide real-world, experience-driven training that saves lives.

As a Master Instructor, Rick is best known for his Project Officer Survival training series—specialized courses focused on enhancing performance, decision-making, and survivability for law enforcement officers. Offered at no cost, this program has trained more than 600 officers, with four confirmed officer saves directly linked to the techniques taught. A key component is Law Enforcement Red Dot Pistol training, delivered with the support of trusted industry partners. Rick’s instruction is rooted in combat-proven fundamentals, building confident, capable officers who can perform under pressure and prevail when it matters most.

One of Rick’s guiding principles is simple:
“Strive to be 1% better every day.”

Project Officer Survival isn’t just a course—it’s a mindset and part of all of Rick’s classes. To carry that forward, every student receives The Firearms Training Notebook. More than just pages of data, it’s a living record of growth: individual notes, tracked performance, and benchmarks that become the blueprint for continued training. Long after the course ends, the notebook helps officers push forward, refine their craft, and embrace Rick Hogg’s philosophy of becoming 1% better every day—because survival is built on constant, deliberate improvement.

Whether training a brand-new shooter or seasoned professional, his focus is on growth, accountability, and discipline through consistent, intentional reps, and data.

Rick’s late SOF K9 partner, Duco, served with distinction from 2012–2017 during the Global War on Terror. After retirement, Duco faced cancer with the same courage and resilience he showed in combat. To honor his legacy, Rick founded the In Honor of Duco Project, a 501(c)(3) all-volunteer nonprofit dedicated to supporting retired SOF K9s with their medical care. The mission is simple yet vital: no SOF K9 handler should ever have to make a medical decision about their partner based on finances.

Today, Rick trains nationwide through War HOGG Tactical bringing decades of experience to every range, mat, and mission.
