Shadow Systems AXIO: CADRE NEWS

Cory Ross

Shadow Systems is one of the top Glock clone makers. Basically, they offer an updated version of the Austrian pistol’s signature design. The MR920, in particular, has been one of my go-to pistols over the past five years. I really like Shadow Systems. So, I was surprised when they introduced something totally new. Instead of sticking with Glock, Shadow Systems developed something new: the AXIO

SPECS

The AXIO 9mm pistol platform is a new full-size, duty-capable handgun built from the ground up with an all-steel chassis. Available in two trim levels, AXIO and AXIO Pro, the platform also comes in a 4.4-inch version for shooters who want a longer sight radius and better controllability.

The standard specs are as follows:

  • Model(s): AXIO, AXIO Pro
  • Action: Sticker-Fired
  • Recoil System: Overstroke Slide System
  • Frame: Modular
  • Caliber: 9mm
  • Capacity: 18
  • Sights: Night Fission
  • Optic Cut: Yes, multiple footprint compatible
  • Magazines: 2
  • Barrel Length: 4.4, 4(?)
  • Overall Length: N/A
  • Width at Grip: N/A
  • Height: N/A
  • Weight: N/A
  • Price: $1,999.00, $2,240.00

FEATURES

The Shadow Systems AXIO is built around a precision-machined, all-steel chassis. The AXIO places mass exactly where it counts, creating rigidity and a tight slide-to-frame fit that results in controllable, predictable shooting.

The Overstroke Slide System extends slide travel and dwell time, softening recoil impulse and ensuring reliable function across various ammunition types, while the Octagon Barrel’s multi-faceted geometry balances strength and weight for consistent lockup.

AXIO also introduces Shadow Systems’ next-generation striker-fired trigger, providing a crisp, drop-safe pull—set at 4 pounds on AXIO and a refined 2.5 pounds on AXIO Pro.

Ergonomics are thoughtfully designed, from interchangeable grip panels and low-profile controls to optimized serrations and a glare-reducing slide top. Optic-ready and available in standard or 4.4-inch configurations, AXIO combines modern capability with confidence-inspiring refinement.

ZOOMING OUT

Shadow Systems is clearly going after the double-stack 1911 market with the AXIO. There’s much to this pistol I like, especially the modularity, with the ability to swap grip panels to balance it exactly as you like.
