It’s not every day that a manufacturer releases an entirely new model from the ground up. A premium manufacturer known for high-quality 1911s is even less likely to do this. So when that happens, I stop what I’m doing and check it out. What I found is unique and unexpected. Let’s talk about the Wilson Combat BULWARK.

FEATURES
Wilson Combat designed the BULWARK as a midsize 9mm service pistol that blends duty-grade reliability with refined shooting characteristics in a compact, carry-ready format.
At the center of the design is an enclosed, hammer-fired system that combines the ignition reliability and crisp trigger feel of a traditional hammer-fired pistol with a snag-free exterior better suited for concealed carry. This system is paired with a 1911-style sliding trigger featuring a 3.75-4.25 lb pull and a short, tactile reset, delivering consistent control and fast follow-up shots.
The pistol is built around a stainless steel slide, hand-fitted match-grade barrel, and a fire control module with integrated frame rails, creating a rigid internal structure for durability and long-term performance, all protected by a black nitride finish.

The BULWARK incorporates four independent safety mechanisms, including a grip safety, firing pin block, and trigger safety, reinforcing secure handling. It offers a 15+1 capacity, fits many Glock 19-pattern holsters, and features an optics-ready pin-based mounting system that supports modern red dots without adapter plates, making it a versatile defensive platform.
ZOOMING OUT
Okay, this seems cool. A duty-rated pistol from a premium manufacturer? Sign me up. I like that it retains much of what makes a 1911 great and easy to shoot, while focusing on duty and concealed carry. Interestingly, the BULWARK uses a fire control unit, which suggests other frames will be available, making it a modular system.
At $1,899, this is not a budget-friendly pistol. However, being from Wilson Combat, you know it will be well-built and high-performing.
