The double-stack 9mm 1911 has taken the proven 1911 platform into the 21st century. For competition, target shooting, and even duty use, the platform continues to grow in popularity. Kimber of Yonkers, New York is a first name in 1911 pistols and now has a double-stack model of their own: the Kimber 2K11.
Kimber’s Take on the double-stack 1911 Platform
The new Kimber 2K11 is a new line of five handguns: the 2K11 OR and 2K11 Target OR in either 9mm Luger or .45 ACP; as well as the 2K11 Target OI in 9mm.
2K11 (OR)
The 2K11 (OR), like the others in the 2K11 lineup, is a full-sized double-stack handgun with a 5-inch barrel. It features a sculpted anodized aluminum grip frame with matching knurled grip inserts and a tapered magazine well. Other features include an extended beavertail and an ambidextrous thumb safety.
The all-stainless steel subframe is DLC coated and wears a new GT 3-4 lb. adjustable trigger and a Picatinny rail for a weapons light. The slide is the same construction and blackened finish as the frame. The 5-inch fluted barrel, like the trigger, is offset in a coyote PVD finish.
The slide has scalloped forward and rearward cocking serrations and wears a TAG Fiberlok green fiber optic front sight and a high-profile rear notch that is integral to the removable optics plate. The 2K11 lineup is available with RMR, RMSc, DPP, ACRO, and 509T adapter plates for most optics on the market.
2K11 Target (OR)
The 2K11 Target (OR) differs from the base model with a coyote PVD finish to the slide and magazine well, rather than the barrel which is given the same DLC coating as the subframe. The slide is also further scalloped with lighting cuts.
Like the base, the Target model is available in either 9mm and .45 ACP. The chief functional difference is the inclusion of a TAG FiberLok 2 red fiber optic front sight and an adjustable rear sight and cover plate for the same C&H Precision optics plates.
2K11 Target (OI)
The 2K11 OI or Optics Included is the Target model sans adjustable rear sight. In exchange, a C&H RMR plate is included along with a Trijicon SRO. This heavyweight 20-shooter is only available in 9mm.
The 2K11 family of pistols is now shipping with an MSRP ranging from $2,125 for the standard model, $2,595 for the Target model, and $3,095 for the Optic Included option.
