Rost Martin RM1S Comp: CADRE NEWS

Cory Ross

Rost Martin is a relatively new company in the firearms industry, specializing in affordable yet feature-rich striker-fired pistols. I am a fan of these pistols. I reviewed an RM1C Comp earlier in the year and gave it a glowing review, with only a few minor nitpicks.

The RM1S is the subcompact variant of the RM1C, making it a perfect concealed carry companion. Like the larger RM1C, Rost Martin is now offering the subcompact model with a built-in comp.

SPECS

The RM1S Comp retains many of the features of the previously released RM1S. Notably, this new model has been enhanced to improve the pistol’s shootability by adding an integral compensator. The standard specs are as follows:

  • Model(s): RM1S Comp
  • Caliber: 9mm
  • Capacity: 1-12 round, 1-15 round magazine
  • Sights: rear black serrated, front white dot
  • Optic Cut: Optic ready with included RMR plate in box. Others are available to order.
  • Barrel Length: 3.6”
  • Overall Length:  6.72”
  • Width at Grip: 1.1”
  • Weight: 19.76 oz.
  • Price: $489.00

FEATURES

The RM1S Comp is designed for concealed carry without sacrificing any features or capabilities of larger pistols. It is optics-ready using plates. Rost Martin ships an RMR plate in the box, with other footprint options available for purchase ($23.50).

My biggest complaint about the RM1C Comp was the grip texturing; it just wasn’t enough, especially after extended use. Interestingly, when comparing the RM1C I tested to images of the RM1S, the texturing differs. The RM1S not only has more texturing but also looks more aggressive. That’s a significant upgrade compared to the RM1C.

When testing the RM1C Comp, I found that the compensator worked well in reducing muzzle rise, especially when shooting 124-grain ammo compared to lower-pressure 115-grain ammunition. The RM1S Comp should be no different. The 12 and 15 round magazines are a nice touch that keeps the RM1S in line with other options on the market.

Zooming Out

As I mentioned earlier, I like the Rost Martin line of pistols. The RM1C Comp was an excellent value, and I have no doubt the RM1S Comp is the same. For sub-500 bucks, it’s hard to find another American-made carry pistol that offers this much for that price. Make sure to check it out at rostmartin.com.
