Smith & Wesson has gradually introduced carry-comp versions of all of its popular handgun series. The latest to receive that treatment is the EQUALIZER. The EQUALIZER fits somewhere between the Shield EZ and the standard Shield X. It is internally hammer-fired like the EZ, but is double-stack like the Shield X.
The Equalizer represents the perfect package for someone in need of an easier-to-manipulate pistol, but with all the features of a larger model.

FEATURES
With performance-driven upgrades, the Smith & Wesson Performance Center EQUALIZER Carry Comp refines one of the brand’s most user-friendly pistol platforms into a more capable defensive tool.
Chambered in 9mm and built on a micro-compact frame, the pistol comes with 10-, 13-, and 15-round magazines, offering shooters flexible capacity without sacrificing concealability. At its core is a single-action Performance Center trigger that provides a crisp, consistent break—an essential feature when precision is crucial.
The pistol also features EZ technology, making it notably easier to charge and broadening usability for a wide range of shooters. Up front, the PowerPort at the 12 o’clock position vents gas upward, reducing felt recoil and keeping the muzzle flat for faster follow-up shots.
The platform is finished with a Picatinny-style rail for lights or lasers, an optics-ready slide, improved aggressive serrations, and an Ameriglo Trooper front night sight paired with a blacked-out U-notch rear sight for a clean, confident sight picture.
ZOOMING OUT
All of this presents a very intriguing option in the concealed carry market. The Equalizer has unique features that make it advantageous for those who struggle with operating a pistol’s slide. Additionally, the Performance Center upgrades make this a feature-rich choice.
