Taurus All-New TX9: CADRE NEWS

Cory Ross

People familiar with Taurus think of the budget semi-automatic handguns and revolvers they offer. That’s where the Brazilian company has cut its teeth. However, a few years ago, Taurus Holding, Inc., hired Bret Vorhess as CEO. Bret previously was with Crimson Trace, Leupold Optics, and Walther Arms. With him, Taurus has revamped many of its processes, rebuilt its reputation, and increased its US production. A direct result of Bret’s impact is the introduction of the all-new TX9 line of striker-fired handguns.

The TX9 truly represents Taurus’s first effort at a duty-style handgun for the US market. FEATURES

At its core, the TX9 features the Taurus Modular System, a modular steel chassis that allows for adaptable grip options, easy upgrades, and long-term flexibility. This design presents the TX9 not as a fixed firearm but as a scalable platform built to handle evolving operational needs. A clean, consistent striker-fired trigger enhances accuracy and control, boosting shooter confidence in challenging conditions.

The TX9 is optics-ready by design, featuring the Taurus T.O.R.O. slide for compatibility with red-dot optics. Available in Full Size, Compact, and Subcompact models, the platform maintains consistent controls and ergonomics across all versions, allowing for a seamless transition without compromising familiarity, performance, or intent.

Zooming Out

The TX9 marks a brand-new platform and direction for Taurus. This pistol is designed for duty use, but it’s also ideal for anyone looking for a new handgun. In terms of features, it compares well with similar models on the market, but what really stands out is the price: $499.99 MSRP. I anticipate the street price will be lower, making it a great value. This will be one to check out.
