The New Streamlight TLR-1 HP-X: Brilliance at 77,000 Candela

CADRE Dispatch

Streamlight, the industry leader in duty-proven handheld and weapon mounted lights, is pleased to introduce the latest version of its venerable TLR-1 pistol light—the TLR-1 HP-X and TLR-1 HP-X USB. These multi-fuel lights are small but mighty, packing up to 77,000 Candela.

The TLR-1 HP-X and HP-X USB max out at only 5.4 ounces in weight but pack up to 77,000 Candela and 1,300 lumens with a maximum beam range of 555 meters. These lights run on powerful LEDs housed in a durable 6000 series aluminum housing that is both impact resistant and holds a IPX7 waterproof rating.

Although it is rated for neglect, the HP-X is also optimized for quick installation and activation. The light comes with rear activation switches that can be left in stock form or extended, for easy activation while getting a full firing grip. The HP-X has a quick-detach feature and, conversely, the battery can be changed without dismounting from the handgun. The light comes with a set of keys so the light can be modified to fit both compact and full-sized universal light rails.

“Our newest weapon light provides an industry-leading level of candela for handguns, giving tactical, outdoor and other users enhanced visibility under low light conditions, such as when searching a dark alley or lighting an outdoor path at night,” said Streamlight President Michael F. Dineen. “The TLR-1 HP-X USB also offers a variety of convenient features such as multi-fuel technology, interchangeable switches to suit users’ shooting styles, and a hinged face cap to allow for convenient, front-loading battery replacement.”

The standout feature of the HP-X line is sheer versatility in its fuel source. Best performance comes using two Streamlight SL-B9 Li-Ion 850mAh USB-C rechargeable battery packs. But you can opt for two 3-volt CR123A lithium batteries instead.

Runtime varies from 90 minutes using the rechargeable packs and 60 minutes with disposable batteries. The standard HP-X ships with two batteries, while the HP-X USB comes with two rechargeable packs and a USB-C cable. MSRP is $335 for the former and $359 for the latter.
