VORTEX AMG 1-10×24 FFP: CADRE NEWS

Cory Ross

Vortex has officially introduced the AMG 1-10×24 FFP optic. Although it’s not a new product, it has taken a while to reach the consumer market. Originally designed for contract orders, it has been used by tier 1 operators, including the British SAS, Royal Marines, and U.S. SOCOM. A few of the military models have reached the consumer market, but only in limited quantities (those models are easy to distinguish because they are FDE).

If use by the military’s elite isn’t a strong endorsement, it’s hard to imagine what is. The introduction of the AMG 1-10 makes it the most sophisticated optical and mechanical system Vortex has developed in a low-powered variable optic (LPVO) to date. It was designed to be the best.

The new AMG LPVO packs of ton of features into a small package. But, before covering those, the standard model specs are as follows:

FEATURES

The features are extensive. I usually summarize them, but that wouldn’t do them justice. Below is the list of features provided by Vortex. As you’ll notice when reviewing them, all are designed to be top-tier “in-class” options.

  • CLASS LEADING HD OPTICAL SYSTEM Stunning resolution and exceptionally wide field of view.
  • TOOLLESS TURRETS Fast, tool-free zero with reliable return and micro adjustment.
  • DUAL ZERO TURRETS Switch zeros for suppressed, unsuppressed, super or subsonic, light or heavyweight loads.
  • LIGHTWEIGHT, COMPACT BUILD Just 8.4″ and 18.8 ounces, fits short-barreled carbines and frees up the rail for attachments.
  • LOCKING FAST-FOCUS DIOPTER (PATENTED) Locks tight to keep your reticle sharp.
  • LOCKING ILLUMINATION DIAL Aggressively knurled for control. Lock prevents shifts from snags and transport.

That’s a lot, isn’t it? And it should be, especially when considering the price, which will be discussed shortly. But there’s more.

Since it has an AMG designation, the optic is made, machined, and assembled in the USA using both U.S. and global parts. Regarding the reticle, it is the EBR-9 in MRAD, which is glass-etched and illuminated. The reticle is designed for both close-range and targets out to 1,000 yards. It features a clean grid for quick adjustments and intuitive ranging marks—3, 4, 5, and 6—corresponding to hundreds of yards and shoulder-width markers at each distance.

Zooming Out

I find nothing about this optic’s features that I dislike—price, on the other hand, is a different story. The full MSRP is $6,399.99, with street prices around $4,000. That’s a significant investment. This makes the optic mainly accessible to those with higher budgets or those who specifically need its features. Nonetheless, if you’re looking for the best LPVO available, this is a strong choice.
