Springfield Armory has just announced a new addition to its lineup, the XD Mod.3 OSP 9mm, and it’s a big deal for anyone looking for a modern, optics-ready pistol at a very friendly price point.
So what’s new?
First off, the slide is factory-milled for optics, meaning it’s ready to mount popular red dots like the RMR, DeltaPoint Pro, or Docter footprints. You can pick up OSP plates from the Springfield Armory store and customize the setup to your liking. For sights, it’s got a red fiber optic front paired with a white dot rear, both made from steel, so they’re built to last.
The slide itself has been beefed up with enhanced serrations on both the front and rear, giving you a solid grip even in bad weather or less-than-ideal conditions. The frame has aggressive texturing where you need it most and there’s also an undercut trigger guard and extended beavertail that let you get a high-hand grip for better control.
Safety features haven’t been overlooked either. You’ve got the passive grip safety with a raised memory bump, plus a tactile loaded chamber indicator on the top of the slide and a striker status indicator on the back.
And if you’re into accessories, the XD Mod.3 OSP is ready to go with a Picatinny rail for adding lights, lasers, or whatever else you like to have on your pistol. The 4-inch hammer-forged, Melonite-finished barrel is built to last, and the gun comes standard with a 16-round stainless steel magazine (or a 10-round version for those in restricted areas).
Steve Kramer, Springfield Armory’s Vice President of Marketing, summed it up nicely: “With optics capability, improved ergonomics, and a very impressive price point, this 9mm deserves a very close look.”
