Springfield Prodigy, Operator, and TRP now with Aimpoint COA: CADRE NEWS

Cory Ross

The Aimpoint COA has really taken the industry by storm. I’ve written many times this year about companies introducing COA-compatible pistols to the market. And I understand why: The COA is about as bombproof of a mounting system as I’ve seen yet. The people I’ve spoken with who’ve tested the COA are very happy with it.

One of the leaders in the space since the exclusivity deal with Glock expired is Springfield Armory. They’ve previously released versions of the Echelon with COA optics. But now Springfield has expanded the COA lineup to include the Prodigy 1911 DS, the Operator, and the TRP 1911 pistols.

FEATURES

Springfield Armory is expanding its Aimpoint COA pistol lineup with new 1911 and 1911 DS Prodigy models that pair factory-milled slides with the Aimpoint A-CUT interface and enclosed-emitter Aimpoint COA optic.

Available in a 4.25″ 1911 DS Prodigy 9mm, a 5″ railed 1911 TRP .45 ACP, and a 5″ 1911 Operator .45 ACP, the lineup is built around an ultra-low mounting system that integrates directly into the slide through a full-length dovetail secured by a front hook and rear wedge. That A-CUT system reduces stress on mounting screws while helping maintain reliable zero retention and allowing co-witness with iron sights for faster target acquisition.

The enclosed Aimpoint COA optic features a lightweight 7075-T6 aluminum housing, a 3.5 MOA red dot, and more than five years of runtime on a CR2032 battery. It includes four night-vision-compatible and eight daylight settings, a 15x15mm lens, and submersion to 25 meters.

The Prodigy adds a double-stack 18+1 capacity via a polymer grip module mounted to a forged-steel frame, while the TRP brings a forged, hand-fit slide and frame, 20 LPI checkering, top-slide serrations, and an accessory rail. The Operator rounds out the lineup with G10 grips, an ambidextrous safety, forward cocking serrations, and a duty-oriented feature set built around practical defensive use.

ZOOMING OUT

I like that Springfield is expanding the COA lineup by bringing the Prodigy, TRP, and Operator into the fold. This gives fans of these pistols another option. More options are always a good thing.
