Benelli M2-G1 Tactical Shotgun: CADRE NEWS

Cory Ross

When it comes to tactical semiautomatic shotguns, Benelli is near the top. The Benelli M4 is ubiquitous, while the M2 tactical shotgun is a proven performer both in the field and on the competition grounds. Benelli continues to push that standard forward with the Benelli M2-G1.

FEATURES

The Benelli M2-G1 Tactical introduces a new operating system and a host of purpose-built features to the company’s tactical shotgun lineup. At its core is the new Rear Piston Operated (R.P.O.) gas system, which uses dual short-stroke pistons near the chamber to reduce exposure to fouling and isolate the recoil spring assembly from carbon and debris.

Chambered in 12 gauge for 2 3/4- and 3-inch ammunition, the M2-G1 features an 18.5-inch barrel and is available with either a shortened fixed stock or a 5-position collapsible stock, with the latter paired with an upgraded pistol grip. Enlarged controls, a beveled loading port, ghost-ring sights, and an M-LOK-compatible forend give the shotgun a distinctly modern setup.

The M2-G1 also adds QD mounting positions, Parkerized operating components, and 5+1 or 7+1 capacities, depending on configuration. The lineup includes Gray, FDE, and MultiCam Black models, with MSRP ranging from $1,829 to $2,149. The platform has also earned a 4.54/5 “Gold Standard” rating through the NTOA Member Tested and Recommended Program.

ZOOMING OUT

The Benelli M2-G1 appears to be a real winner, building on the legacy of Benelli tactical shotguns. But it has a lot to live up to. At about $2,000, it is definitely an investment. With the Benelli name behind it, I have a feeling it’s going to be a hit.
