A facsimile of the ill-fated Beretta Model 86, the Girsan MC 14T has won brand-new fans thanks to its successful use of a rack-free tip-up barrel in a light-kicking midsized handgun chambered in .380 ACP. Although it is geared toward new shooters, extra features are always a plus.
European American Armory of Cocoa, Florida, the sole importer for Girsan, has announced the new MC 14T X, pairing a classic design with modern sensibilities.
The Girsan MC 14T: Now Ambi and Suppressor Ready
Functionally, the new MC 14T X model is the same as the original.
Standing in stark contrast to the pocket-sized polymer .380s on the market, the MC 14T X is a traditional mid-sized aluminum framed handgun that boasts double-digit capacity and a familiar Beretta-like double action/single action mechanism.
The pistol can be safely carried with the hammer down and the thumb safety off and fired with a long pull of the trigger. The hammer is then re-cocked by the slide and subsequent trigger presses are lighter and more precise. Alternatively, the pistol can be carried with the hammer back and the safety engaged.
Tip-Up, Threaded Barrel
What makes the MC 14T truly unique is its tip-up barrel, which can be opened for direct loading and unloading of the chamber without having to rack the slide. This feature is found on the pocket-sized Beretta Bobcat and Tomcat pistols, but Girsan succeeded where Beretta failed to make it work in an upsized .380.
The MC 14T X ups the ante with a five-inch fixed fluted barrel that is threaded for 1/2×28-inch suppressors and other muzzle devices. It also features an ambidextrous thumb safety that was not present on the original, allowing for ease of carry for both left-handed and right-handed shooters.
The 14T X comes finished in a two-tone tungsten and black cerakote to the frame and the slide, ergonomic G10 grip panels, and a Picatinny rail for mounting a weapon light.
