Yes, mounting a red dot on a handgun is all the rage. Nowadays, it’s strange to see someone shoot with just iron sights.
Is shooting with iron sights going the way of cursive writing? A whole generation will go without learning such valuable skills (and yes, I might be a millennial, but I still write in cursive).
Sig Sauer has been a driving force behind both RDS pistols and its Romeo series optics. The latest release is the ROMEO-MDC, designed for “rugged reliability.”

FEATURES
The Sig Sauer ROMEO-MDC is a compact open reflex sight designed specifically for everyday carry pistols, balancing durability, clarity, and ease of use in a streamlined package. Built with a 7075-aluminum housing, the optic is engineered for long-term strength while remaining lightweight at just 1.03 ounces.
Its aspherical glass lens delivers a clear sight picture for fast, instinctive target acquisition, paired with either a 3 MOA or 6 MOA red dot. The ROMEO-MDC uses an industry-standard Shield RMSc footprint, enabling compatibility with a wide range of compact, optics-ready handguns.
Brightness is adjustable across 12 settings, including 10 daylight and two night-vision modes, and runtime extends up to 20,000 hours. A top-mounted battery compartment allows easy replacement without removing the optic, and the unit is IPX7-rated for waterproofing, capable of withstanding submersion to 1 meter for 30 minutes.
ZOOMING OUT
Overall, I don’t have any complaints about this. It offers a solid feature set at an approachable price point. I’ve run a few iterations of the ROMEO-ZERO, and the latest ones have held up to extensive carry. I don’t see why this one would be any different.
